A special Irish Golf Tour for your father

The boys enjoying golfing in Ireland

Are you looking to do something a little extra special for a father days golf trip?

The following itinerary is a sample Irish Golf Vacation for a father and three sons (or perhaps a group of two dads and two sons) that would like to spend quality time together.

Picking the south west of Ireland will offer easy access to the really special Irish golf links courses. Plus I recommend using Shannon Airport for a number of reasons:

  • · Access to major international Airports, London Heathrow, Newark, Boston, JFK, Atlanta, Chicago O'Hare, etc.
  • · Shannon is an easy airport to gather your luggage, meet with your transport provider and exit to the golf courses.
  • · On departing the airport, the group can play tee times from 9.00 am at the most amazing Irish golf courses: Ballybunion Golf Club, Adare Golf Resort, Tralee Golf Club, Lahinch Golf Club and Trump Doonbeg. The early morning flight arrivals from the USA allows for early tee-off times.
  • · Shannon Airport is generally not that busy and it’s unlikely that you will encounter delays from air traffic.
  • · Lahinch is located approx. 45 minutes’ drive North West of Shannon. Lahinch is a peaceful seaside town with a number of fine pubs with Irish traditional music for you to enjoy. Lahinch boasts a number of excellent restaurants and pubs to dine in.
  • · The local community will make you feel right at home and you will find fun everywhere you go.

The golf links courses that I have selected are my suggested golf courses to play and they are certainly the premier Irish golf Links courses to play in the south west of Ireland. You could always change location to Killarney and swap in Waterville & Old Head for Adare & Lahinch, not to forget Trump Doonbeg. (Please note that Adare is currently under reconstruction, Doonbeg and Ballybunion only have new greens built since 2015 & 2016 and the current green speed is very slow)

Accommodation:

Night 1 Bunratty Castle ( this hotel is selected should one of the group wanted to arrive a day earlier and rest up before the trip really starts)
Nights 2,3,4,5 inclusive with departure on the 6th day: Vaughan Lodge with twin room occupancy.

There are a number of fine accommodation options that you can choose from in the Lahinch area. Great places to stay include Moy House, a 5* guest house, the 4* Hotel Vaughan Lodge, Wildhonney Inn and the 3* Lahinch Golf Hotel and plenty of good quality B&Bs. I picked the Vaughan Lodge for its wonderful location right in the centre of town, the rooms are sizeable for two golfers and the staff are very friendly.

Transportation

Chauffeured driven Mercedes sprinter; the driver will meet you at Shannon Airport on arrival. He/she will drive you from the hotel to each of the golf courses and return each evening. Sightseeing or extras can be easily arranged.

Dining:

Suggested restaurants (ranked in order of recommendations):

***Restaurant 1826 Adare: (this would be a very good selection after playing golf at Adare before you head back to Lahinch)
*** Wildhoney Inn Lisdoonvarna (they don’t take bookings, but we will call ahead to ask if a table is available)
*** Morrissey Seafood bar, Doonbeg (this is an easy place to stop to enjoy a really nice seafood restaurant en-route back from Tralee or Ballybunion). This restaurant is located approx. 35 – 45 minutes south of Lahinch.
** Vaughan Anchor Inn, Liscannor

Pub grub suggestions in Lahinch:
The Corner stone in Lahinch
O’Looney’s Pub in Lahinch

For a group of 4 people, you would expect to pay in the price range form €900.00 to €1,950.00 - €2,350.00 depending on accommodation and transportation preferences.
